about us

WAMP was established in 2006 with the aim to bringing designers closer to public and to creating a common platform for unique, quality and available design objects.  The monthly WAMP design fair has become one of the most important cultural and design forums in Budapest. In the summer Erzsébet square (former bus station) and in winter Gödör Klub  hosts  the event.

Jewellery, graphic design, textiles, ceramics, glassware, recycling objects as well as  toy design objects are presented by designers and some galleries present their works on the fair. The special atmosphere of the fair was once a novelty in Budapest but became an awaited regular event  after becoming generally known.

The aim of the initiative is to support and promote contemporary Hungarian design,  as well as to enhance demand for design in everyday life.

Each WAMP focuses on a different theme starting from the year of 2007. The aim of the thematic focus is to show the connecting points of design with other areas in order to draw attention of beauty of everyday objects and to generate more motion in designlife in Hungary.

This year so called WAMP-projects have become more and more frequent. That is when a WAMP-moves to festivals, exhibitions and design related events in Hungary and abroad leaving the usual venue and date.

From the year 2008 we also organise an international design festival every year with the invitation of designers from a different country.  The aim of these festivals is to present international design to the professional audience and to the public, to strengthen the dialogue between designers and to inspire and connect designers to international networks.

The idea of WAMP derives from three young women of different fields but similar approach, who are the  following::

Krisztina Mátrai graduated as a fashion designer and teacher of Visual Culture of environment at MOME. She  coordinates designers of WAMP. As a program manager of WAMP she is in charge of the undisturbed operation of the fair and of the comfort of the visitors. Under the name of Crix she is an active designer and exhibitor.

Réka Matheidesz graduated in international relations at the University of Economics and the College of Europe. She has lived in several countries and her interest in and obsession to design started in these years.  She is the managing director of WAMP and is in charge of international relations and projects and sponsorship.

Kinga Mosshammer is the program manager of WAMP and is responsible for creative projects and media relations. She applied her educations of MOME and London College of Fashions not only in the field of design but also in special fields, such as costume design, concerts and view plans. As a freelance designer she still designs men’s wear and bags under her own trademark.
